Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Today's readings invite us to reflect on the transformative power of humility and the call to serve others in the name of Christ. As we delve into the Word of God, let us open our hearts to the profound messages that guide us on our journey of faith.

The Gospel passage from Mark 10:35-45 presents a powerful lesson on humility as James and John request positions of honor in Christ's kingdom. In response, Jesus teaches them that true greatness lies in humble service. "Whoever wishes to be great among you will be your servant," he declares. In a world that often exalts power and prominence, Christ's message challenges us to redefine greatness.

Saint Paul, in his letter to the Hebrews (Hebrews 4:12-13), speaks of the living and active Word of God, sharper than any two-edged sword. The Word exposes the thoughts and intentions of our hearts, inviting us to examine our lives and grow in humility before God.

As we gather here today, let us reflect on how we, too, can embody the spirit of humility in our daily lives. Are we attentive to the needs of others? Do we seek to serve rather than be served? In our families, workplaces, and communities, are we instruments of God's peace and love?

Humility does not diminish our worth; rather, it elevates our humanity. It allows us to recognize the dignity in others and to respond with compassion. Christ, our greatest example of humility, embraced the path of service even to the point of sacrificing his life for our salvation.

As we partake in the Eucharist today, let us remember that this sacred meal is a celebration of Christ's humility and selfless love. May we be nourished by his Body and Blood, drawing strength to follow in his footsteps and humbly serve one another.

In closing, let us embrace the challenge presented to us by Christ: to be servants of all. Through humility, we become vessels of God's grace, transforming the world with love. May the Holy Spirit guide us on this journey, and may our lives reflect the humble and compassionate heart of Christ.

Amen.
