Over 130 years of faith, community, and transformation in the heart of Atlanta
Mount Zion United Methodist Church was founded in 1891 by a small group of freed Black Methodist families on Atlanta’s Westside. What began with 40 members meeting in a schoolhouse has grown into one of Atlanta’s most vital congregations — over 2,000 members strong.
We are part of the North Georgia Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church, guided by the Wesleyan tradition of grace, service, and social holiness. We believe the church exists not just for the saved, but for the whole city.
Pastor James has led Mount Zion since 2010. A graduate of Candler School of Theology, he is known for bold, Scripture-rich preaching and a heart for the city.
Renée oversees women’s ministry, pastoral care, and our Wednesday night Bible study. She is completing her D.Min at Emory University.
DeShawn leads RISE Youth Ministry with energy, vision, and deep love for the next generation. He has grown the youth program from 40 to 350 students.
