About Trinity Episcopal

Nearly two centuries of faithful witness in the heart of Charleston

Our History

Founded in Faith,
Shaped by Grace

Trinity Episcopal Church was founded in 1834 by a small community of Anglicans who gathered for worship in a converted schoolhouse on Cathedral Way. From those humble beginnings, the parish grew to become one of the most vital and beloved churches in Charleston.

Our historic Gothic Revival building — completed in 1871 — has been the setting for countless baptisms, confirmations, weddings, and funerals across six generations of family life. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.

We are members of the Episcopal Diocese of South Carolina and the worldwide Anglican Communion — a family of 85 million Christians across 165 countries, united by the Book of Common Prayer.
